Broadcomm, Qualcomm Take Differences To Court
posted Jul 9, 2008, 3:04 PM by Eric M. Zeman
Both yesterday and today, representatives from mobile phone chip-makers Broadcomm and Qualcomm appeared before judges regarding Qualcomm's infringement of Broadcomm patents. Last year, Qualcomm was found to infringe on several Broadcomm patents regarding 3G chips inside cell phones. The initial ruling barred Qualcomm from importing any devices with the offending chips on board into the U.S. That ruling was later stayed to give Qualcomm time to appeal the decision. Today's arguments are part of Qualcomm's appeal. No decision has been rendered, but a ruling against Qualcomm could reinstate the ban on importing 3G chips.
