Users can navigate the menu with flick of a finger. They can flip through the contact list for speedy texting, emailing and phoning. Favorites can be reached with a drag and drop photo interface.

Featuring 3G VCAST capabilities, the handheld supports VCAST Music to download from over 2 million songs and VCAST Video to stream entertainment clips, sports highlights, breaking news and weather.

A 3.2-megapixel still and video camera automatically adapts to low or unevenly distributed light for better quality pictures. The photo editing tool features borders, landscape and a fun doodle option right on the screen. Consumers can directly upload customized photos to social networking sites.

The Dare supports audible turn-by-turn directions via VZ Navigator. Built-in GPS locates nearly fourteen million points of interest in the U.S., including landmarks, restaurants and even ATMs.

Additional information on the LG Dare will be available later this month.

According to some web reports it will be available online 6/26 for $199 with $50 rebate -- looks like a nice jump on the iphone market.

Online release, stores will see it in another week or two. And the price is $199.99 after the $50 rebate for a two year term.

For all of this talk about the iPhone, what percentage of the market does it carry vs. Smart phones, or regular phones. All the ads and articles are not really increasing it's appeal to the vast majority or people who want more or less out of a phone, then the iPhone is capable of. I can tell you right now, if it worked well in my area, I still would not get one.

Looks like there is also a deal for a free 8GB memory card with the online order.

Seems like the only way I can get the phone right now is by also getting a $79.99 or higher plan. Is this only happening to me or do you have to get the plan as well? Can anyone confirm this?

Unless you already have service with us and are eligible for upgrade. Did you properly sign into your online account?

I do have service with verizon, been with verizon for at least 6 years, and I can upgrade my phone. When i click to upgrade it shows me the list of phones i get discounts. Then once that list is over theres a new list that says "The following phones are not compatible with your current plan.
You will need to also change your plan if you select a phone from the list below" that list consisted of the voyager, glyde, and dare icon_cry.gif

Hey nano23, I use to be a Sales Rep. for Verizon Wireless. The reason it's saying you can't get the Dare, Voyager, or Glyde with your current calling plan is b/c you need the Nationwide calling plan. Especially if you've been with Verizon for 6 years; the Nationwide calling plan was introduced probably about 6 months ago. All 3 of those phones require the Nationwide plan along with V-Cast for unlimited internet. Just switch your plan (it should be around the same price as the one you currently have - just a different name) & you'll be able to upgrade to the Dare, Voyager, or Glyde.

switching plans may cause you to lose the unlimited text feature that the old plans have.

Not all old plans had unlimited text. Do you know the details of your unlimited text plan you had prior? Sounds erroneous or like the $3 to $5 feature that was added on years ago. And yes that feature is long expired.

again Im sorry about that

As for the Dare taking on the IPhone. There is no way to compare them, 2 different animals the dare's OS is locked down, & the web browser doesn't display web pages like the IPhone!

I bought a Dare and felt a bit cheated after playing with the new IPhone. Verizon needs to wake up & see that we want more freedom & functionally when it comes to our cell phones.

Hey look at japan there Wireless networks & Cell Phones are way ahead of us in the states!

Just got an Lg Dare and was wondering if there are any shortcuts for texting. I use the Word or T9 Function, but if I have to use a number or symbol, do I have to go down to the bottom and touch word and jump to the screen that features word, Abc, ABC, 123, symbols? it gets to be a hassle jumping from screen to screen. Does anyone have a solution> Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Yeah, its the same price to switch to the Nationwide plan.I just switched mine so that i could get the dare. I think the only thing that is different is how they price your get it now, and mobile web usage. it is paid by MB use instead of using minutes from your plan.
