CSR's new BlueCore7 chip integrates Bluetooth v2.1+EDR, Bluetooth low energy, eGPS, and FM transmit/receive onto a single chip. By combining all these radios onto a single piece of silicon, it reduces battery draw, the overall size, and cost of building Bluetooth technology into mobile phones. The ultra low power Bluetooth technology was first introduced by CSR in April. It uses fewer frequencies to make connections and can connect faster, which reduces power requirements. The FM radios will allow users to transmit, and receive FM signals separately or at the same time. CSR said the chip will be available to manufacturers in volume by the fourth quarter.
