The CTIA is petitioning congress to put a five-year freeze on any new taxes on cell phone bills. The CTIA claims that about 15% of each cell phone bill goes towards state and local wireless taxes. Further, it says that the growth rate of taxation on wireless bills was four times that of other goods and services between 2003 and 2007. The CTIA says that if taxes continue to increase, it could hurt the industry. The Cell Tax Fairness Act was presented to the House of Representatives today by Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) and Chris Cannon (R-UT).
